Private Sector Workers to Receive Double Pay on Bonifacio Day – Employees who work on November 27, designated as a regular holiday for Bonifacio Day, are entitled to receive 200 percent of their daily wage. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) emphasized this in Labor Advisory No. 24, series of 2023, issued on Friday, urging employers to adhere to the holiday pay regulations.
According to the advisory, for hours worked beyond the standard eight-hour workday, companies must compensate employees with an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on that day (hourly rate of the basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent x number of hours worked).
If an employee works on a regular holiday falling on their rest day, the employer must pay an extra 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent (Basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent).
For those working over eight hours on a regular holiday that coincides with the employee’s rest day, the employer is required to pay an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on that day (Hourly rate of the basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent x 130 percent x number of hours worked).
The DOLE clarified that if an employee does not work, the employer should still pay 100 percent of the employee’s wage for that day, provided the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.
