SM Davao, like all SM malls, is owned by SM Prime Holdings, a publicly listed company and one of the largest integrated property developers in Southeast Asia. SM Prime Holdings is part of the SM Group, which was founded by Henry Sy, Sr., one of the richest and most influential businessmen in the Philippines. The Sy family continues to have a significant influence on the operations and management of the SM Group, including SM Prime Holdings.

Henry Sy, Sr. established SM Supermalls as part of his vision to make shopping more accessible to Filipinos. Even though Henry Sy passed away in 2019, the business empire he built is now managed by his children and successors, with his son, Hans Sy, and daughter, Teresita Sy-Coson, playing key roles in the company’s operations.
